A few weeks ago I decided to join Doodlewash.

It is a great sight for artists to connect with others who enjoy painting with watercolor.

Tonya Lee at Scratchmade Journal was hosting a great giveaway which I was blessed to win.

There was a trio of Da Vinci paints, travel brushes from  Wild Plein, a great block of Hahnemuhle watercolor paper, and a beautiful  handmade brush holder by Aneta Kochr.  She has a lovely shop at Etsy - Nature Sketches.

Also included in this wonderful package of goodies was a wonderful canvas bag displaying art from Scratchmade Journal.

It was like receiving a Christmas package in May!

Doodlewash will once again be organizing World Watercolor Month in July.  This sounds like a fun event.   Charlie O'Shields began Doodlewash several years ago.   Hope you will hop over there and check out the sight as well as Tonya Lee at Scratchmade Journal.

Think I will now get busy doing some painting with those new art supplies!

May everyone have a wonderful week.

God Bless

trees, their blossoms don;

And through the blue heavens above us The very clouds move on."  Heinrich Heine, Book of Song

Hope all of you have a lovely month of May.

At Harmony Hills the dandelions are beginning to appear.  They are growing and blooming everywhere.

It is always amazing to read that there are places in the U.S. and other countries where people purposely plant them in their gardens.

Here they are considered to be a weed or at best an invasive wildflower.

Growing up my mom would often gather the leaves early in the spring before they bloomed.
She would wilt them in a skillet with bacon and serve them up for dinner as our veggie dish.

It was not a favorite of mine but there was no option.  At that time one always had to eat what was served.  (How things have changed!!)

Read somewhere that if one rolled  the flowers in flour and fried them in butter they tasted a bit like morrels.   I tried doing this once - probably won't do that again.
(Fried morrels are fabulous and there is no substitution for the real thing.)
Over all the plant is rich in vitamins and exceptionally nutritious...just doesn't suit my taste buds.

My father- in- law always loved to see a patch of  them blooming. To him they were pretty and signaled that warm weather had arrived.

Guess it all comes down to perspective.  Where one sees a weed another sees a lovely flower.
Perhaps it is a lot like life...circumstances may seem like weeds but in retrospect they may be growing us into a bunch of pretty flowers.

Upon that thought I will sign off hoping all of you are seeing flowers instead of weeds growing in your garden.

Hugs Debbie

As I have shared in the past I often struggle with whether a painting or sketch is finished.

Wouldn't it be nice to know for certain?

This peach tree knows it is not finished until it bears fruit.

As far as my brother is concerned this chocolate cake is finished :)!

To my eye this small painting is finished.    There is nothing more I want to say.

Not so certain about this one.  Perhaps I will set it aside and think on it a bit.

As for the little sparrow it seems to always know when the bird seed is finished and it is time to go.

Upon that thought I will say this week's post is finished and it is time for me to go also.

Hope each of you have a wonderful week.

"Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.   By the seventh day God had finished  the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work."

I went looking for spring yesterday.

This is what I found.

Forsythia starting to flower...

Daffodils and blue squill blooming

Virginia blue bells showing color...

someone singing a sweet tune

and lastly two friends basking in warm sunshine.

May each of you find some spring today.

God Bless

April is here!

Page from Sketchbook

Yes friends April is here!

It brought us a special gift the day after Easter.

We awoke to a lovely snowfall.

Every shrub and limb was covered.

By noon it was beginning to melt and at
4:00 P.M.  it was gone.  It was as if
it had never happened.

So yes April has arrived - she may be teasing us but she is here!

Hope everyone has a wonderful week.   BTW - this post is early - we are celebrating my Mom's birthday tomorrow.  She will be 80.

"Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised.
Give her the reward she has earned, and let her works bring her praise at the city gate."  Prov. 31:30-31 (NIV)
