Doodles/Inktober/Yellow Jackets

Been doing lots of doodles since I discovered that October is the month for Inktober.

First read of this event at Rhonda 's blogspot.  If you haven't paid her a visit - please do.   Rhonda is always up to something new and exciting in her studio.

Speaking of studio - mine became a  home for Yellow Jackets (you know those mean ground hornets that pack a terrible punch if you corner them).   Hubby and I searched but we could not find how they were getting in.  Naturally we had to close the room off so they wouldn't find their way into the rest of the house.

Glad to report a hard frost slowed them down and I think as of yesterday we killed our last one.   Hopefully I can move back in.

Pizza Soup
During my exile more time was spent in the kitchen.   When the temperatures start to drop and the days grow shorter soup is often our evening meal.   This particular one is a favorite.   (If anyone would like the recipe - let me know - always love to share).

Well so glad you stopped to visit.   Hope you return soon.

In the meantime have a blessed week.

Hugs Debbie

  1. Good morning Debbie!... Your post is as visually tasty as your soup idea!

Your unique zentangles are not the usual "doodle" fare... they have real thought beyond mere playing with black line on white and geometric form. Lovely!

I'd love your pizza soup recipe. I'll send along one of my own winter stove toppers!

    Happy Fall... and rich blessings!
    Warmest regards,
    Bruce

  2. Hi Debbie, hope you're having a lovely Sunday! I just love doodles and I think it's a great way to let out all the creation inside you. Black and white can be so dramatic, I can see a bird, a butterfly, some flowers in a basket, etc.
We also got those yellow jackets too for a few weeks in the basement. Never had them before, but now it's colder and they just stay put wherever they are. Hugs and welcome back into your studio! :)

  3. So Debbie, I see you are a master doodler already. I bet your school books had decorations of doodles around the covers. Please tell me you couldn't be this good if you hadn't doodled all your life. Zentangles are perfect for you. Love your designs.
Yes, please. Would love the soup recipe.

  4. Glad you can get back in your studio!! I do not like (and fear) anything that packs a big sting. I like these and you are great at the zentangle stuff on coasters (I have some of these but never did much with them - just another art supply for someday! ha ha Have a beautiful Sunday.

  5. Debbie, that soup looks delicious. I've never heard of it. I live in a clapboard house where every sort of wasp builds it nests. I despise them. Love bees, but not wasps. I tried a contraption that lures them in a trap, but only 1 got caught. I don't think there is an answer, but they do get wobbly when it's cold.

    Gros bisous ♡

  7. Sorry to read about the yellow jacket problem.
I discovered a bug getting in from a tiny hole where the patio windows meet. Another place is where window trim meets the wall. They also like tiny dark places to build a nest, tubes for example. Around light fixtures and electric outlets there can be space inside the wall for them to travel. Good luck.

  8. Love those doodles!! InkTober is my favorite month!
So glad you got rid of those nasty bees. I was introduced to some vicious hornet stings this summer & it is something I will never forget.
As usual, a wonderful post, Debbie! Have a wonderful week!

  11. Hey, your doodles look great! I love the black and white of course. Color could be an interesting addition too.

Anything that flies and stings tends to freak me out! I had a similar issue to yours earlier in the summer. The wasps were somehow coming in and though I only killed two, that was quite enough! They scare me desperately and I worry they will sting the cats. Like everything else around here though, they had a season which was blessedly short-about a month.

Have a good start to your work week. Monday is that much closer to Friday!

  12. Debbie, you doodles are just wonderful and I was thinking the shape of them in the photo remind me of coasters. They would make wonderful coasters.

    Have a beautiful week.

  13. Hi Debbie, glad the yellow jackets are gone. Never an easy thing for them to be around. Pizza soup sounds interesting I bet it's a good way to get kids to eat soup although I don't have trouble with that around here. My grand sons eyes light up when I tell them I've made soup. LOL Have a great week!

  14. Hi Debbie,
I am so glad the yellow-jackets disappeared with the frost! They are nasty!
Love your photos this week. That old chair outside is begging to be put in a painting!
I wish you a wonderful week ... with no nasty bugs!

  15. Glad to hear you've banished the yellow jackets from your studio and that you're enjoying fall. We had potato cheese soup for dinner Friday night. Even though it's still not truly "cool" I couldn't wait any longer.

  18. Of course, I have never heard of yellow jackets - your insect life is so different from ours - I have to say they don't sound very nice though - rather you than me - ha! I am a big doodler but mine certainly aren't as artistic as yours that's for sure. Your soup looks quite yummy - is it like a pasta sauce only runnier? I made lentil and ham soup the other day - not bad but not particularly good either - I'm not really keen on meat based soups. Love the picture of the overgrown chair. Have a good week my friend.

  19. Love your Doodles ...some of the women in my art group was doodling and they called in zantangle.... something like that! lol......forgot the name but it's really beautiful when they finished it!! and so glad you got rid of the yellow jackets...it would have been pretty scary if they went into your home!!

  20. Sorry the yellow jackets forced you out of your studio. I like your zentangles...someone from one of my art groups is doing a zentangle demo Wednesday night and we all get to take part. That soup looks and sounds yummy! Have a great week!

  21. Glad you were able to escape the Yellow Jackets, Debbie. They can be very determined and aggressive at times.

We are "soup" people, also, especially in the winter. Besides having great nutritional value, they make the house smell good as well. I haven't tried Pizza Soup, but it sounds yummy. I'd love to have the recipe, Debbie, when you have time.

    Have a fantastic week!.

  27. Great doodles Debbie - look like such fun things to do. Soup looks perfect for those chilly nights. Those hornets sound scary - good to hear you got them sorted out.
I love the photo of your rustic wooden seat against the tree. Hope you're having a great weekend!

  28. Oh Debbie, I feel for you! I try and abide by live and let live, but yellow jackets are just down-right ornery! Sometimes they find their way down our fireplace and end up in the house and Guy was stung when he was just a kitten and learned the hard way not to mess with them! Happy Halloween!
